Cake Industries were commissioned to make this open tread staircase to access a roof garden through a sky light. The brief was concerned with bringing maximum light into the stair below, while having a solid feel to the stair. Steel stringers were concealed within the two flanking walls to support folded steel cross members, which were clad on site with pre-finished and formed treads to create a mitred dark oak tread. The back edges are spray painted to match the pale hue of the flanking walls to lighten the view from underneath.
