Cake Engineering carried out the concept, detailed and fabrication design of a 20m span steel ladder beam bridge to carry a pedestrians over the River Erne in the centre of Ivybridge, Dorset. Designed to sit on existing foundations, the bridge was as light as possible with slender beams, integrated balustrading and GFRP deking panels. This led to a SCORBs rating (a measure of the embodied carbon in the structure) of A which is on the path to our 2030 net zero climate aims.
