Cake Industries worked in collaboration with Assemble to develop a batch produced chair for the cafe at the new Goldsmith’s College Contemporary Art Gallery. The chairs were fabricated from thin steel sheets, riveted into place and finished with a golden zinc passivated finish with a tubular steel base.
The chairs were reviewed by Oliver Wainwright in the Guardian, who described them as “Paper-thin sheets of steel [that] have been crimped, riveted and chemically passivated to give them a golden rainbow glow, like soap bubbles on legs. They have a comfy spring to them too.”
The chairs are due to be part of a limited edition production run available in 2019. More details will be available soon.
