A monolithic mirrored finish reception desk commissioned for an innovative office refurbishment in Canary wharf, London. The desk’s ship-like form makes reference to the historical nautical connections of the area.
Cake Industries developed and refined the initial idea sketches to design a system of steel ribs clad in complex curved stainless-steel panels that were then seamlessly welded. The labour-intensive process of grinding and polishing the exterior through a series of abrasive levels was used to achieve a highly polished mirror finish. The upper desk surfaces are made from thicker material with a contrasting brushed finish and the desk inlaid with solid oak.
The desk and a circular, rotating tree planter/bench set, were delivered to site and installed in single units by our dedicated site team.
