Edinburgh Star

Installed at St James Quarter, Edinburgh, this 8m star sculpture, created for James Glancy Design, combines festive spectacle with structural ingenuity.

Designed to withstand high winds from the Firth of Forth and the “accidental” loads of enthusiastic visitors, the slender equal-angle steel sections are reinforced with a rear plate and anchored to an icosahedral central core housing all electrical controls. Its precise geometry ensures both stability and elegance, while the integrated lighting brings the form to life. A striking landmark for the city, the sculpture demonstrates how careful engineering and creative design converge to create a bold, resilient, and celebratory public installation.

Constructed in our workshop the sculpture was designed to be dismounted for both transport and seasonal storage.
